In a statement issued Thursday, President Joe Biden announced that Jean-Pierre had also been promoted to assistant president.
“Karine not only brings the experience, talent and integrity needed for this difficult job, but will continue to lead the way in communicating the work of the Biden-Harris administration on behalf of the American people,” said Biden, 79. “Jill and I have known and respected Karina for a long time and she will be a strong voice who will speak for me and this administration.”
In his statement, the president also wished Psaki, a longtime Democratic spokeswoman who has held the role since the first day of administration last year and embodied Biden’s attempt to have a less militant relationship with journalists than his predecessor Donald Trump.

“Jen Psaki has set the standard for restoring decency, respect and decency to the White House briefing room.
