The roommate of a gay lawyer in Florida, whose body was found at a landfill in Florida in January, has been charged with murder.
Steven Yinger strangled Jorge Diaz-Johnston at his home in Tallahassee and dumped his body, which was later found in a pile of garbage at a landfill in Baker, Florida, about 60 miles east of the Alabama border, according to an indictment issued by a district court. in Leon County.

A lawyer representing Yinger did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment.
When Diaz-Johnston’s body was found, he and his husband, Don Diaz-Johnston, had been separated and lived apart, Don Diaz-Johnston told NBC Miami.
“It was shocking and terrifying to find … I still have not come across the fact that my life has been completely changed and this turned everything upside down and put an end to all our hopes and plans,” Don Diaz -Johnston said after last week’s indictment. “Being a part of this now and getting our marriage to end this way is something I’ll just never seen coming and still honestly can not accept.”
Diaz-Johnston’s death sent shock waves through the LGBTQ community when his body was found.
The 54-year-old victim, who is the brother of former Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and his husband, was an integral part of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Florida. In 2014, the two men, along with five other same-sex couples, sued the Miami-Dade County office after they were barred from getting married.
