Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards Timberwolves apologized on Sunday for the anti-LGBTQ comments he made in a video posted on Instagram over the weekend.
In the deleted film, Edwards, 21, pulls down the car window and calls a group of shirtless men “queer” while another person in the car laughs in the background. After a wave of opposition on social media, Edwards said he was “incredibly sorry.”
“What I said was immature, painful and disrespectful, and I’m so sorry,” Edwards tweeted on Sunday. “It is unacceptable for me or anyone to use this language in such a painful way, there is no excuse for it. I grew up better than this! “
The NBA may penalize Edwards for an incident that most likely violates its social media guidelines. Last year, NBA star Kevin Durant was fined $ 50,000 for using “offensive and derogatory language on social media” after the homophobic tyranda. In 2011, Joakim Noah of the Chicago Bulls was fined a similar fine for throwing anti-gay slander at a fan.
Edwards enters his third season as a goalscorer for Timberwolves.
NBA and Timberwolves officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
